Salary Ranking of Administration Technicians
Two federations that belong to the Centrale des syndicats du Québec (CSQ), the Fédération du personnel de soutien scolaire (FPSS-CSQ) and the Fédération du personnel de soutien de l’enseignement supérieur (FPSES-CSQ), have reached an agreement with the government of Quebec to improve the ranking of Administration Technicians who work in school service centers and CEGEPs
The FPSS-CSQ and the FPSES-CSQ had filed complaints about the ranking of Administration Technicians as part of the 2010 pay equity maintenance exercise. The increase just obtained will be retroactive to December 31, 2010, and will include legal interest, as stipulated in the Pay Equity Act.
An injustice that lasted too long
FPSS-CSQ President Éric Pronovost is delighted with this positive outcome for women who have suffered serious pay inequity for too long. These Administration Technicians work in the general sector of our school boards and centers.
“We have been fighting for years to ensure that the work of these Administration Technicians is recognized at fair value. This is finally the case, and it is a great victory of which we are proud,” says the President of the FPSS-CSQ.
A long struggle continues
FPSES-CSQ President Valérie Fontaine feels the same way and applauds this significant victory in the long struggle of women to get full recognition of the value of their work. “This settlement shows that, despite the passage of the Pay Equity Act, this struggle is never over for women. Fortunately, we have now demonstrated again that when we fight for a just cause, victory is our best reward,” said Valérie Fontaine.
In closing, we note that the FPSS-CSQ and the FPSES-CSQ represent nearly 400 Administration Technicians.
