The government has introduced several education bills in the last few months, including Bills 47, 89, and 94. These reforms were implemented without any real consultation with school support staff.
Unions and the Right to Strike
With Bill 89, the government is attacking our right to strike, an essential tool for making our voices heard and defending our working conditions. The goal is to make us weaker so that it can unilaterally impose rulings on us.
Electoral Reforms
Some bills, like Bill 94 on secularism, seem to address political objectives more than the needs of the educational community. Decisions seem to be influenced more by polls rather than actual needs.
Reactions to Media Crises
The government often reacts to media scandals with hastily constructed bills, such as Bill 47 that deals with sexual violence. These are important issues, but analyzing this bill requires rigor and consultation with those involved.
Worker Consultation
Reforms are often developed without the participation of education workers. It is essential to foster dialogue and collaboration among all parties.
Demands
The Fédération du personnel de soutien scolaire is calling for genuine consultation on all government bills, any reforms dealing with the diversity of school environments, respect for the right to freedom of expression and union action, and a climate of trust.
United by the challenges we face, we will continue to defend our rights, our working conditions, and the quality of education for our students and for society as a whole.
